The parish of Aberlour is the seat of a Presbytery in the Synod of Moray; Patron the Earl of Fife; It is bounded on the north and north-west by the parishes of Knockando and Rothes; in the north-east by the parish of Boharm; in the east by the parish of Mortlach; and in the west by the parish of Inveravon. The parish of Aberlour is in the county of Banff, and contains about 14885 statue acres, there are no detached parts of it in any other parish, neither are there detached parts of any other parish within its limits.

An ornamental Column upwards of 60 ft high. Surmounted by a Globe marked with the usual meridians and parallels, to commemorate the achievements of Ferguson the Astronomer it was begun about 1835 by Mr Grant then proprietor of Aberlour House in order to give work to a number of poor people then out of employment and in a very destitute condition. The Globe was placed on it merley as Complimentary to the Astronomer and is not regarded as a Monument for him or Any other Special object And in consideration of such it has never attained any local name further than Column. |

On referring this name to the examiner he states that "It consists of the roofless walls of the old church the foundations of which are all complete and the walls are in a broken irregular state varying in height from 6 to about 12 feet"
