023 Dr. [Doctor] Chalmers' states in his history that "The parish of Galston had its name from the Village of the same name, where the church stands; & the village, and lands, obtained their names of Galston, from some early proprietor, or settler here, call Gall to whose name was affixed his tun, or town."
The extreme length of the Parish, from Est to West, is about 9 1/2 miles, extreme breadth about 3 1/4.
It is bounded on the north by Kilmarnock and Loudon, on the east by Avondale, on the South by Sorn & Mauchline, on the east, south & west by a detached portion of Riccarton and on the west by Riccarton.
The antiquities of this parish are very interesting, including a Roman Camp, will be found described in the following pages of this book. -
There is no part of this parish detached, nor is there a detached portion of any other within this. J.C.Giles O.S. [Ordnance Survey]
