046 A fresh water Loch through which flows the River Doon. Its dimensions vary with that River. The land all around is low and level and as the River increases or decreases So does the Loch, there is a probability had there been no River Doon there would be no Bogton Loch. After a heavy fall of rain acres of the adjacent low lands are inundated for weeks. The Loch is fertile in Reeds (which is but a natural consequence from the Shallowings of part of it), these with Scattered Clumps of Close Willows on the margin attract a great number of various Kinds of Water-fowl it is in both Parishes viz Straiton and Dalmellington, the property of the Hone.
