050 | Situated in a Somewhat deep dell on the edge of a Steep Slope which forms a natural defence to the Castle on three points viz E. [East] W, [West] & North - It is not exactly Known what period this Stronghold was built but Supposed to have been about the Middle of the Sixteenth Century. It was the Residence of the KilKerran family previous to the erection of the new house of KilKerran at which time it was unroofed. The walls are in a good State of preservation, about four feet thick and rise to a height of three Storeys with gable ends. There are three Stone floors each on Storey apart and a Spiral Staircase to the top of the Castle having Communication with each floor Property of Sir James Ferguson Bart [Baronet] KilKerran. |
