056 | A small straggling village, situated at the confluence of the Gregg with the River Stinchar, about seven miles from Girvan. It contains an Established and a Free Church - their respective schools and manses - each a separate building - an Inn, the usual public houses and victualling shops, and dwelling houses, generally thatched and one storey high. The inhabitants are generally agricultural labourers and weavers. There is an annual fair held in the village. In 1653 the Parish of Barr was disjoined from the parishes of Girvan and Dailly. |
