212 Applicable to the remains of a fort or ancient watch tower, situated on a very bold & steep eminence, (wooded), immediatley north of Dunmore house. It is of considerable extent. Parallelogram in form but rounded at north & south extremities. In length about 140 feet, in breadth about 70 feet. The wall, of stone, being, on the west side about 13 ft. thick & on the east about 10, In the centre are the ruins of a small building apparently erected same period as the fort. The walls are pretty much dilapidated, varying in height from 2 to five feet. On the western side there is a remarkable avenue of large beech trees. A similar fort called "Dun a Choin Duibhe" (201 trace 11) is situated about a mile & one-fourth north of this, and another about half a mile south west. And all supposed by the authorities quoted, to have been Signal or watch towers (as well as places of defence) in connection with chain of forts along the coast of Kintyre.
