An ancient building (in ruins) once the Castle of the Chief of the Macleans, occupying the brink of a high cliff on Duart Point, and consists chiefly of a large square tower with walls of an immense thickness still in good preservation. It is supposed to be of Danish origin, but in this there is only the tradition to rely upon. In 1390, upon the authority of the Great Seal Register, the Castle of Duart was granted "by Donald of Ile, Lord of the Isles, to Lachlan Makgillean". It is now the property of A.C. Guthrie Esq: of Duart House. |

The circle is about 40 ft. [feet] in diameter and is now enclosed by a fence or paling and planted with trees. It is (the circle of stones) of undoubted Druidical origin, and has been preserved and the tradition handed down from generation to generation.
It is situated in an arable field a short distance N. [North] of the mansion house of Lochbuy. |

An ancient Grave Yard in connection with a Chapel prior to Reformation, the ruins of which is now repaired and used as the burial place of the Maclaine family. The Grave Yard itself is still used as a public burial place for the parish of Torosay.
It is situated at the head of Loch Buy about 1/4 mile S. [South] from Laggan and on the prioperty of M. G. Maclaine Esq of Lochbuy from whose mansion it is about 1 mile distant. |
