It is a remarkable natural feature somewhat in the form of a fort and derives this name from a party of rebels having lodged here, but of what date cannot now be ascertained. On a knoll on the east side of it, a large Cairn of Stones was removed in 1847 by Mr. Fowlie farmer, nothing of interest was discovered.
