006 | A village of considerable extent, situated near southern extremity of the Parish of Tyrie. It is chiefly comprised of two streets running partallel along the eastern slope of the Hill of Torlundie. The principal buildings are the Quoad Sacra, Congregational and Free Churches, Episcopal Chapel and School. About centre of the High Street is a commodious market Place, where markets are held four times during the year, here is the Commercial Inn. The streets High and Low are repaired by the County Road Commissioners, the remainder, lanes and side walks, by the feuars of the various properties. The schools are the Episcopal, and Side Parochial. A branch of the Union Bank of Scotland is situate in High Street, a little further north is the Post Office. The Gas Works, Poorhouse, Police Station and Free Church are situate in Low Street. The feus are held under perpetual lease. |
