SILVER WELLS (Chalybeate) | Silver Wells (Mineral) | William Florence Silverwells James Tawse Croft of Woodhead James Anderson St. Marys Croft Tenant |
019 | Two strong Chalybeate spring Wells, situated on the Eeast and West side of the Mill Dam at Silverwells, which they supply with water, they can only be seen when the dam is low. The one on the East side of the dam, appears to have been notable, and the virtues of which could not be secured but by a pecuniary offering to its Patron, and hence the name of the farm where it exists, "Silverwells". Neither of the wells, in whatever veneration they may formerly have been held, are now of any great repute. |
