061 a Conspicuous high Summit of a Considerable Commanding view of the Surrounding locality. The name merely signifies Summit, or top, or head, to watch upon, or observe from. The above is a Specimen of the wretched orthography of the Newe Estate Map.
Tradition speaks of the Summit being in immediate connection with the Fort South of the hill and the other northward at the Don, particularly in the time of King Robert Bruce's Army in the district.

061 Issues from Springs a little South of an old Fort on Kinbattoch Farm and abt. [about] ½ a mile S. [South] of Kinbattoch Farm Steadings and runs in a N.E. [North East] direction and enters the River Don below Towie village

061 It seems little or no record is known about this quadrangular little Fort. I have inquired of Dr. [Doctor] Robb practitioner at Glenkindie the most intelligent about the like Subjects in the district It is his opinion that the Fort and some other ones and also many of the large Stone Cairns in the district were established at the time King Robert Bruce's Army were in the surrounding districts.

061 The interior portion of the Fort within the Fosse is pretty well defined. The Fosse itself in the S.E. [South East] was levelled down for arable Land and is now much defaced; upon the N.E [North East] L [angle] of which is a neatly built Cottage with a Garden attached and the Fosse seems to have been 15 or 20 feet in depth. Situated about 23 Chains S. [South] of Kinbattoch Abt. [About] 8 Chains N [North] of the Old County Road The property of Sir Charles Forbes of Castle Newe Baronet
