John Sleigh Esq. Factor George Rennie Back Street Strichen Description of Formartine & Buchan Ry [Railway] |
013 | In the woods of the policy a short distance west of the Mansion, stands the ruin of a small chapel, built by Lord Lovat when proprietor of Strichen & intended for a family place of worship. The building was never completed, & is now gradually falling away. "A little to the west of the mansion stands a roofless Catholic Chapel, which had been erected by the former proprietor as the private sanctuary of the family. The walls seem entire & in good preservation. The only ornaments about the small edifice are its pointed door and windows. Trees are growing inside."
