Remains of Supposed CAMP [Torshinach] | Camps Camps Camps Camps |
William McCombie Esqr Mr John Steven. North Gask. Mr George Reid. Forester. Mr Andrew Leslie. |
074 | Two large irregular Camps with several small Circular ones, they have evidently been hastily thrown up as at present the remains are a stony bank, about 8 feet of a base & in some places about 4 feet high - which could be easily made from the Surrounding Tumuli. whereas the Bank is sharply defined a slight etching is shewn. Local tradition points to this as one of the Marquis of Montrose Encampments during his Victorious Career of A.D. 1645-6. "Brown's Highland Clans," likewise notes the fact that Montrose encamped here and a Sword of the Period was recently found when repairing the Statute Labour Road passing this one of them. |
TUMULI [Torshinach] | Tumuli Tumuli Tumuli Tumuli |

074 | Numerous small Cairns of moss grown stones. tradition is silent regarding their origin and the greater part is now improved away none remaining except within the Fir Plantation. |

[Note beside 'Camp'] - Note. This had better be written in the singular form as it all appears to have been one combined work. On reference to the examiner, he states that although there is a strong local tradition as to its having been a camp the appearance of the object does not justify the belief.
