074 A large rough slab of Granite pronounced by the Authorities quoted to be part of a large Druidical Circle, it is about 6 feet high and forms one of several which formerly stood on the Estate of Auchinclech. the present Owner W Rust Esqr. Auchinclech states that he removed several before he was aware that it was a Druidical Antiquity he was destroying. the name "Auchinclech", ie the "Field of Stones" is partly corroborative and both Old & New Statistical Accounts refer to two Druidical Circles in this Parish of which an undoubted one appears on 74-9 and this must be the other.

From the proprietors evidence there seems no doubt but this was a Druidical Temple and is so written on the Plans. If Standing Stone was written (Remains of Druidical Temple) should be added also.

Altered to Stone Circle in accordance with order from Southhampton dated 10th December 1864. [Initialled] TL
