Parish of Rayne

EARL OF MAR'S REE Ree. Half drunk, Galloway. In a Ree. In a state of temporary
delirium, expressive of one who has not slept off intoxication. Ree a continuation of stormy weather
Ree. A sheep- Ree, a permanent sheepfold, surrounded with a wall of stones and feal. Jamieson.

Ree also signifies an "Enclosure", but I cannot find that any earthwork was actually thrown up, although the tradition
of Montrose's having encamped here, may account for the name. [signed] EHC Capt RE [Captain Royal Engineers]
