008 The Church of Rathan is dedicated to St Ethernan, Bishop of Aberdeen, whose feast was Kept on the second day of December.
It is said to be one of the oldest in the Country. The Church and teinds were, at an early period. appropriated to the Cathedral diocese, the incumbent being the stipendiary of the Dean and Chapter till the period of the Reformation The Church, though old and inadeqate, as is said to the population is far more picturesque than many a modern building.
