these days, and those of the monastery on the other; or that the building was in a state to receive the three monks, who formed the first deetachment, at the latter mentioned date, which there is some reason to believe was the case.
The church was built in the form of a cross, and consisted of a nave with a north aisle, transepts, and chancel. The internal dimensions were as follow:-
Total length of nave and chancel - 150 feet
Across the transepts - 90 feet
Width of nave and aisle - 38 1/2 feet
Length of nave - 90 feet
Length of chancel - 30 feet
Width of nave and chancel - 27 feet
Width of transepts - 30 feet.
The nave was divided into five bays, the chancel not extending beyond the line of pillars which divided the aisle from the nave. The bases of the pillars might, till very lately (1854), be traced along the nave. Those forming the angles
