072 ; 073 ; 083 ; 084 | This is a large prominent hill, it has a lease of about twenty miles round and about four broad of an oblong Shape. it rises suddenly from a cultivated district and the most of its sides are planted as far as wood will grow, at a distant view it appears a regular Smooth Shaped hill but when on its Summit it appears otherwise, more like a mountain range than an isolated hill it is composed of about twelve tops more or less prominent from one to two miles apart. the most prominent lies in the Parish of Banchory Ternan the next highest in Kincardine O'Neil and the next in Midmar and the least and lowest in the Parish of Echt, there is about an equal devide of it in each of the above four parishis, it is the source of several Stream the chief of which viz. Corrichie Burn lies in Banchory parish and flowing South, the next in size is the Gormack which also rises in Banchory but flows eastward, In general it is dry and Smooth Surfaced producing good heathy pasture none of it being rocky or precipitous, there are odd patches here and there but very small when peats are extracted, That portion of it in Midmar parish is the property of Captain John Gordon Cluny and others, |
