071 At the south base of this hill and extending into the Ph. [Parish] of Coull are a great number of Tumuli of which the Statistical account of the Ph. County of Aberdeen Parish of Lumphanan

Cairns Tumuli . These monuments of the dead are entirely composed of Small stones, and as they are invariably called "Cairns" in the neighbourhood the name has be altered.

Taking a direct line between Loch Canmor or Daven and Aberdeen the Tumuli at Mulloch in the Ph. [Parish] Aboyne ,these, those at Mill Maud and others in the Ph. [Parish] of Skene (at Garlogie) would be all in the same line of rout. which makes it probable that the Danes were routed and pursued from Mulloch by Malcolm as far as Aberdeen.

Referring to the battle of Culblean which is the fight that the Examiner alludes to and which was fought by Malcolm III and the Danes in A.D. ? the "legends of the Braes of Mar" says "the pursuit continued to the Seaside, where the Danes were exterminated."
