008 This name is applied to an evidently artificial but now much dilapidated eminence or mound situated on margin of the links, about 25 chains east of the above farmhouse. Traces of a building have been discovered here, hewn stones removed hence may be seen in the walls of the Cothouses on the above farm, Mr. Marr the present farmer a number of years ago dug up several dressed stones at the north west portion of the mound, and has heard it said that the Castle of Lonmay formerly stood here.
"There is also the site of an old Castle, called the castle of Lonmay, in the links thereof, near the Sea, from which all the stones have been carried off and employed in buildings &c." New Statistical Account.
