It is said that the place was formerly the Seat of the Landed proprietor or Laird and that the farm derived its name from the old Garden which is of a quadrangular figure which is still in good preservation. Standing a little southward of the dwellinghouse. The trees about the said yard or garden are supposed to be 300 years old.
