SCULPTURED STONE [Rothie Brisbane] | Sculptured Stone | Captain Courtney. R.E. [Royal Engineers]. | 028 | This stone covered a drain in the old County Road from Rayne to the Village of Auchterless: it was thence taken by the late James Hay, Chalmers & set up in his Father's Garden at Rothie Brisbane where it now stands. Its' original site is not known. The sculpturing is peculiar, as it does not represent the symbols in the form they are usually pourtrayed. The top figure appears to be the "Horse-shoe" or "Arch" symbol. A Stone circle was removed from a hillock in the adjoining moss about 62 years ago but this Stone was not there. [Signed] E.H. Courtney. Cap. [Captain] R.E. [Royal Engineers]. 4/3/69. [4 Mar 1869] |
