055 ; 065 ; 066 | "The name of this parish is supposed to be Gaelic and to signify the fair bank of the river. The parish is situated in that district of the country called Formartin, and extends from five to six miles in length along the north bank of the river Don and from three to four in breadth - containing about fifteen square miles. It is bounded on the south by the river Don, which separates it from the parishes of Dyce, Kinellar, and Kintore; by the parish of Keith-hall on the north and west, and by New Machar on the east. Its shape has some resemblance to that of an Irish harp with the broad end turned to the east." Extract from the Statistical Account of Scotland (Aberdeenshire) page 743. This parish is in a good state of cultivation and possesses a considerable quantity of wood. This past season a large extent of moss has been reclaimed and improved, on the estate of Sir William Forbes Bart. [Baronet]. There is a small village in the parish containing an Inn, Post Office etc, and situated about a mile from Kinaldie Railway Station on the Great North of Scotland line. Proprietors the Right Hon. [Honourable] the Earl of Kintore and Sir William Forbes Bart. [Baronet]. Note. There is no portion of this Parish detached, nor portion, or portions, of any other parishes enclosed within the boundary of this Parish. The Parish boundary common to Kintore is also the Municipal and Parliamentary Boundary of that Burgh. |
