031 This is a small den in the north part of the parish of Ellon. The name is known to but few persons now living, but Mr Sim Says that when his father Settled here more than one hundred years ago, the name was well known.

031 This name applies to a long den thro' which, flows the Malin Burn, this name is not very generally known but there is a tradition that at one time there was a road from "Slains Castle" to the gates of "Dalgetty Castle" passing thro' the "Den of Auld Malin" and the said road was to be kept broad enough, for a shepherd with one eye and a dog with one eye, to keep their flock on.

031 This burn rises in the parish of Old Deer, about 500 yds [yards] from its Source it becomes part of the Boundary between the parishes of Deer and Ellon; it flows in a south easternly direction from its source until it crosses the public Road about one mile from where it rises. at this point it enters the parish of Cruden and during the remainder of its Course is known as the water of Cruden
