039 Tradition says there was once a castle here, and Mr. Mair the farmer at Mains of Kinmuck says that he has often heard the old people say that the stones belonging to this castle were used for building the Old Castle of Ellon; the track of a moat or ditch is quite distinct to the present day, and it is not long since it was filled in, and a new ditch cut through the centre. There is also a Tradition that the "Laird of Kinmuck" killed the "Laird of Waterton" at Ellon, and had to fly the country for it. - I can get no authentic information in connection with this castle, as all the records are either lost or destroyed.
