065 The parish school and the only school in the parish. It is situate about a mile south of the church, and is a good slated building with a teacher's residence attached. Latin is taught, as well as the ordinary branches of an English education, and about 60 scholars, of both sexes, attend. It is not endowed; but besides scholars fees, and the usual support from the parish, the master also receives a share of the Dick and Milne Bequests; which are, however, not fixed upon this or any other school, but given to various masters; the former on condition of passing a certain examination, and varying in amount according to qualifications. Last year it ranged from £40 to £20, but twenty years ago was nearly double that sum. The Milne Bequest is given on condition of teaching 25 poor children, without charge, and amounts to £20 annually.
