The parish of Drumoak is in the Presbytery of Aberdeen, Synod of Aberdeen, Patron, Irvine of Drum. It is bounded on the south by the parishes of Durris and Maryculter; on the west by the parish of Banchory Ternan in the County of Kincardine; on the North, by the parish of Echt; and on the north east and east, by the parish of Peterculter; in the county of Aberdeen. The parish of Drumoak is partly in the County of Aberdeen and partly in the County of Kincardine.
The portion in the county of Kincardine contains about 2121 statue [statute] acres and it is situated in the north west of the parish; the remainder of the parish which is in the county of Aberdeen contains about 5280 statute acres, in which is situated the parish church.
There are no detached portions of the parish of Drumoak nor are there any detached portions of any other parish situated within it.
The soil is various, but mostly of an inferior quality. That which lies along the river side is light and sandy, recumbent on gravel, and consequently dry an early. In other places, it is thin and moorish, and frequently rests on till, or an equally hard and retentive moorland. Some spots, however, which have long been under cultivation, are loamy, and, when properly treated, carry abundant crops. |

A small, but powerful spring situated on the farm of Westhill, at the eastern extremity of the Loch of Drum, and a short distance from the margin thereof. By local tradition we are informed that, King Robert, the Bruce who, it seems, frequently hunted in the Forest of Drum, and, as a matter of course, was always foremost in the chase, allayed his thirst at this Spring. Hence the name. |

"The Stone now erected on a knoll within the policies of Park House, on the river Dee, was originally placed on the west end of the "Keith's Moor", in the parish of Drumoak, not far from the spot where, it is said, that in times of baronial jurisdiction, the gallows stood. It was squared for being put into a wall, and thus partially destroyed, but was rescued in time to preserve the principal figures which had been cut on it. The parish of Drumoak, or, more properly, Dalmaoak, was dedicated to St. Magota virgin. Many tumuli still exist in different parts of the parish; and arrow heads are occasionally picked up."

Tradition points to this place as the scene of a Conflict between the Clans of Keith and Irvine, but does not say in what year it took place, (the Irvines were victorious,) but it must have been at an early period. As flint headed Arrows are still Occassionally picked up about this place, the Irvines have been located in Drumoak since the 12th Century. |

Parish of Drumoak County of Aberdour
Some time after 1323 a deadly feud seems to have arisen between the Keiths, hereditary great Marischals of Scotland, and the Irvines of Drum; and tradition tells of a fight which took place between them on a moor on the north bank of the Dee, which now forms part of the glebe, and is known by the name of the Keiths' Muir. In that battle the Irvines were victorious, and drove their enemies across the river, at a deep and rocky part of its channel, which still bears the appellation of the Keiths' Pot; and a rock, which occasionally appears a few inches above the water, on which, as is said, one of the fugitives took refuge and was killed retains the name of the Keiths' Stone. In order to stop this bloody feud, the states of the Kingdom interfered, and enjoined Alexander Irvine, the third in descent, to marry Elizabeth Keith, daughter of the great Marischal. Drum so far tempered his resentment with that spirit of loyalty which has always distinguished the family, as to enter into the proposed alliance, by submitting to the performance of the marriage ceremony; and this external union, which seems to have been all that took place between the parties, had the desired effect of binding the two families together in bonds of friendship, which remained long unbroken.
