026 | Situated in a hollow, between Newbigging, and Mosshead in the parish of Gartly, This Smith (a soldier in the Duke of Cumberland's army) died in Mosshead on his way to Culloden and was buried here by his Brethren before leaving, with no coffin save his own Clothes. There was a coffin made for him at Mains of Gartly but the Soldiers had no time to wait for it. When the parties who went for the Coffin heard of his being buried the burned it on their way thither. |
