List of names as written Various modes of spelling Authorities for spelling Situation Description remarks
CULSALMOND [Continued] one mile east of the Free Church, and the Episcopal Chapel which is situated at Fisher Ford. There are three Schools viz the Parish School, the Free Church School and the Episcopal Chapel School. The only antiquities of note are the Standing Stones of Newton, two large Sculptured stones standing in front of the Laundry at Newton House, a few cairns in the vicinity of Cairn Hill and a large cairn called Mummer's Rieve, this is all the antiquities of note, still remaining in the parish. There was formerly an ancient British Camp on the Hill of Tillymorgan it is now drained and all traces of it are removed, and the Roman Road also passed through this parish, but all traces of it are also obliterated. The traces of Military works, Lines of intrenchments etc. on the north west side of the hill of Tillymorgan for the protection of the Ancient British Camp appear to have only existed in the imagination of the writer of the Statistical Account. As the oldest inhabitant (Some of whom were born and has always lived at the place where the Works are supposed to have existed.) never heard of any such things. The only Market of note held, is St Sairs but this is fast declining, from one of the largest markets in the North of Scotland, to a mere Horse Market, owing to the opening up of the country by Railways which carry the produce of the country to all the large Towns in Scotland.
Note. There is no portion of this parish detached nor portion, or portions, of any other parish enclosed within the boundary of this parish.
