008 A Fresh Water Lake Covering about 700 acres, Situate partly in the parishes of Lonmay & Crimond. Up till the year 1700 it formed part of the Sea and was of much smaller extent than now, at that period vessels of small tonage entered it. About 20 Years later a furious gale blew from the East and scattered a hill of Sand forming a bar across the outlet, which completely severed it from the Sea. -
About the end of last Century a Mr. Sellar attempted to drain it, but after expending several thousand pounds the experiment proved a failure. It abounds in Trout & Perch, Wildfowl etc.
Property of Sir. A. Bannerman Bart. [Baronet] Crimonmogate & Mr. Gordon, Cairness.
