ABERGELDIE CASTLE (continued) Abergeldie Castle (continued) [Continued from p 132] "In 1487 Alexander Gordon of Midmar, was presented with the lands of Abergeldie, and was one of the witnesses, that took oath on on the plate, in the church of St Nicholas at Aberdeen at the Reformation in January 17th (1560) 1550." About fifty years ago whilst some workmen were repairing one of the floors they came upon a stone coffin, containing human bones, hair, and the sole of a boot, How, or under what circumstances it was placed there, has not yet been found out. The present building is situated on the South bank of the Dee, about six miles above Ballater, and consists of a square tower, of ancient date, and some recently erected buildings; the whole is in excellent condition. The above partly copied from The Caledonia Itinerary, or a [Tour] on the banks of the Dee, by A. Laing, Aberdeen 1819.
