At a remote period, the road leading between Alford and Aberdeen crossed Douglas Burn at this point; And, as there was no bridge, vehicles forded, while pedestrians crossed on stepping stones. It seems that, the Highlands frequented this road. |

A very elegant, modern Castle, erected about 15 years ago, it is built of granite, is five stories in height, and has a very picturesque appearance, the demesne is extensive, and excepting on the north side, is surrounded by a high Stone wall. The modern building has been erected on the site of the old Castle, which, with its mossy walls, iron gate, and fosse, have entirely disappeared. It is the residence and property of J. Gordon Esq. |
