JOCK'S CAIRN | Jock's Cairn Jock's Cairn Jock's Cairn |
Mr. Smith, Farmer, Dykenook Mr. Gordon, Farmer, Gordonstown. Mr. Brown, Hillside |
043 | This name applies to the principal Cairn amongst the other Tumuli, and appears to have been larger than the others, scattered about here; but nearly all the stones of Jock's Cairn have been carted away for building material. Jock in all probability has been a chieftain good, & by his renowned valour & gallantry in battle, his clansmen; through love & respect raised a large pile of Stones to the memory of Jock. I cannot hear of any traditionary accounts respecting Jock's Cairn. R. Dickson Sapper RE [Royal Engineers]. |
