one thousand men, advanced to Old Meldrum, and Sir David de Brechin pushed on to Inverury with a small party, and suddenly attacked and put to flight to a few of Bruce's soldiers at the end of the Town. Enraged at this Military affront, the King instantly rose from his litter, and called for his horse. In answer to the remonstrances of his friends, he declared that the insults of the enemy had wrought his Cure; and although so weak that he had to be supported in his saddle, he led on his troops in person, and, marching to Old Meldrum, he made a furious attack upon the Earl of Buchan, and entirely defeated his army, pursuing them for many miles with great slaughter." "Cumming's Camp" is situated about half a mile South west from Old Meldrum.
