Mr George Simpson (Meadowbank)
056 Previous to the Reformation there was a "Chappel at Horsecrook". (Col. [Collection] on the Shires of Aberdeen & Banff)
"Meadowbank" was formerly called "Horsecrook". There are no remains of the Chapel to be seen. George Simpson, Shepherd, Meadowbank, states he has resided in the neighbourhood 50 years, and that the late Mr Reid told him that the Site marked was the graveyard of the Chapel. It is supposed by the authorities above quoted that the Chapel Stood in the grave yard and that the Site marked is as near as it is possible to ascertain. None of the old people in the district remember seeing any portion of the walls. The Revd [Reverend] William Thomson says that the Persons who demolished the old Chapels in this parish all came to grief and an untimely end. The man who destroyed the Chapel at Ardo Cut his throat, and the man who dug up the graves at Boggs was Smothered in a Sand Pit on the day the work of destroying the graves was completed, and the Lady at Meadowbank lost her eyesight.
