WE UNDERSUBSCYVERS being by the Act of the late Convention at Edinr. [Edinburgh] the 20th January 1667, nominat and appoynted Commissioners for rectifying the valuations within the Shyre of Drumfries, Stuartry of Annandale and the Fyfe Kirks in Eskdale, and empowered thereby to use all effectual means that every person concerned and liable in payment might bear their equall and just proportiones of the Assessment then imposed and other publique burdens. the Lords of His Majesty's Privy Councill by their Act dated the -- day of -- last have Ordained us to default the sowme off Fyfe thousand merks off the Viscount of Stormont's former valuation, and lay the same on these who were undervalued in the said bounds, as the Act bears. In obedience of the which Acts, and in pursuance of the said trust theirby committed to us, having strictly and exactly, conforme to the rules and method therein mentioned, taken cognisance
and tryall of the disproportions and inequality of valuations within the said bounds, and rectified the same, and deduced the said Fyfe thousand merks from the Viscount of Stormont's valuation and imposed the same on these who were undervalued conform to the said Act of Councill, and limitations contained theirin and in the Act of Convention, THEIRFORE WE have unanimously Concluded and Determined the several valuations in the foregoeing Book consisting 36 pages,
to be the just and equal rule for uplifting the present Supplie grant - [continued on page 124]

The Duke of Queensberry's haill lands in Nithsdale, including the Lands of the petty Heritors in Kirkconnell parish, the Courance, the Two Merkalnd acclaimed by William Carlyle in Roucan, the Twenty Shillingland of Reidhall in Lochmaben, the Netherland Croft in Dalgarno, the Kirkland of Torthorwald, Morton-holm and Penpont, the Ten Pound Land of Dornock above the Kirk, with the Birks in Penpont, Gotsbrig, Neuk,
and Twenty Shilling Land possessed by Hogg in Middlebie, were valued in the Valuation Book made up in My 1671, in cumulo, and extend altogether to 33687.0.0
But on petition presented to the Commissioners of Supply, on the 17th May 1745, by the Commissioners of his Grace Charles Duke of Queensberry and Dover, it was represented, that, upon examining the Valuation Book, and placing out the Lands therein contained, which had been purchased by the Family of Queensberry since the time it was made up, it would appear there were none whereof the tenants did not pay the Supply, except these following, viz. :-

PARISH OF DURRISDEER.
The whole Lands in this parish which are particularly mentioned under it, except Durrisdeer-town, and the Lands pertaining to Eliock 3985.0.0
The total Valuation of the Duke's Estate, not including such of the late purchases as the tenants paid the Supply for, appeared to be 39,439.6.8
And the Commissioners of Supply, by their Act, bearing the date 17th May 1745, appointed the Supply payable furth of the said Valuation, to be uplifted and received in manner following, viz :-
For the lands pertaining to the said Duke within the Presbytery of Penpont, including the Lands of petty Heritors in Kirkconnell parish, according to the valued rent of 32,309.10.0
For the Barony of Ross, including the Courance, and the Lands of Reidhall, in Lochmaben, (now stated under the united parishes of Kirkmichael and Garrell,) according to the valued rent of 2,735.10.0
For the Barony of Torthorwald, including the Two Merkland possessed by Carlyle, and Kirkland of Torthorwald, according to the valued rent of 3,074.0.0
This article charged under the parish of Torthorwald.
For the Duke's part of Gotsbrig, or Scotsbrig, according to the valued rent of 150.0.0
