E106/5/5/1A [Page] 1A E106/5/5 SCHEME OF ALLOCATION between and among the Trustees of HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF FIFE, K.G., [Knight of the Garter] K.T., [Knight of the Thistle] and pur- chasers from him, or their Successors, of the old Valued Rent of the portions of the Fife Estates lying in the Parish of Marnock and County of Banff, so far as unallocated. The lands of Elrick now belong wholly to the Trustees of Colonel John Gordon Smith of Delnabo, and the lands of Knockorth belong to the Trustees of Alexander Chalmers of Clunie. The respective valued rents of these lands are therefore allocated on them, and the remaining sums are allocated below in the same proportions as the Stipend formerly payable by His Grace previous to the commencement of the land sales was allocated in the Scheme of Locality prepared in 1900. An allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle, but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And, as the allocation of the Stipend was made on the basis of the real rent, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis though not directly.

January 1912 The Valued Rent of the whole lands in the parish of Gamrie, now or formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife, is £2920.0.0 Scots. That sum is allocated below in the same proportions as the stipend payable by His Grace previous to the commencement of the land sales was allocated in the State of Teinds prepared by Messrs. J. K. and W. P. Lindsay in 1900 and in the Scheme of Locality which followed upon it. An allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle; but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And, as the allocation of the stipend was made on the basis of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis, though not directly.

E106/5/5/26A [Page] 26A SCHEME OF ALLOCATION between and among the Trustees of HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF FIFE, K.G., [Knight of the Garter] K.T., [Knight of the Thistle] and pur- chasers from His Grace, or their Successors, of the Old Valued Rent of the portions of the Fife Estates lying in the Parish of Keith and County of Banff. March 1913 The total Valued Rent of the whole lands in the Parish of Keith, formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife, is £3044, 12s. [shillings] 4d. [pennies] Scots. This sum is allocated below in the same proprotions as the Stipend which was payable by His Grace previous to the commencement of the land sales was allocated in the Scheme of Locality prepared in 1901. An allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle, but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And as the allocation of the Stipend was made on the bases of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis though not directly. The total Valued Rent of the whole lands in the Parish of Mortlach, formerly belonging to the Duke of Fife, is £1440. That sum is allocated below in the same proportions as the stipend which was payable by His Grace previous to the commence- ment of the land sales, was allocated in the State of Teinds and Locality prepared in 1897 by Messrs Mill & Bruce, S.S.C., and in the Scheme of Locality wich followed upon it. An Allocation made on the immediate basis of the real rents would no doubt be more strictly in accordance with principle, but in many cases the amounts of the real rents at the dates of the sales are not readily ascertainable. And, as the allocation of the stipend was made on the basis of the real rents, it follows that the present one also proceeds on that basis though not directly.
