A Survey of the duties on Carriage & Riding Horses arisen in the Burgh of Brechine
[for] the halfe Year from the 10th October 1784 to the 5th April 1785 by William Greig Surveyor
23 Horses for the 1/2 year from the 10th October 1784 to the 5th April 1785 at 5s [£0.5.0] each is £5.15.0
I William Greig Surveyor aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon Carefull examination
of the forgoing duties I find they amount in whole to Five Pounds fiveteen
Shillings Sterg. [Sterling] and that upon the [...] day of [...] 1786 I delivered to Mr Alexander Valentine
Collector of the said duties for the Burgh aforesaid an exact duplicate of the
Above Account (as will appear from [...]) duly examined and
compared with the foregoing, which contained my Oath that Nottices were left
with the several persons before named or at their dwelling houses of the dates
annexed to their respective names requiring them within fourteen days to
give in a list of their Horses retained or employed by them from the Tenth of
Octr [October] 1784 to the fifth of April 1785 and that the said account or Survey is made
out from the lists returned to me, and from the best information I could procure of
The Horses of those who neglected or refused to give in a list thereof in terms of the
Nottices left with them William Greig Surveyor
