Ther are In all within The wals of Edinburgh The number of Tuelve Thousand one Hundreth Tuentie and Fyve Hearths, wherof payed nyn Thousand Fyve Hundreth sixtie and Four Hearths Extending to the soume of six Thousand six Hundreth nyntie and Four pounds sixtein shillings [£6694.16.0] scots Monnie Resting wnpayed Tuo Thousand one Hundreth sixtie and Fyve Hearths: on Charitie Three Hundreth nyntie and six Hearths

I John Craig Mercht [Merchant] In Edinburgh doe heirby Testifie That I am willing To Compeir befor The Right Honourabl Lords of The Comitie apoynted for the Hearthmonnie Ther to giv my oath That The abovwritten are all the Hearths that I could Find within the Citie of Edinburgh and that I used diligence In order to the searching of them In witnes wherof I hav written and subscryved thir present with my hand day and place forsd [forsaid]

I John Craig colector of the hearth money within the wals of Edinburgh Heirby Declair vpon my solume oath In presence of the Lordes of their Maties [Majesties] thesaurie That the Listes of hearthes contained in this book Extending to nyne Thousand fyve Hundreth sixtie four qch [quhich] are payed And Tua Thousand Ane Hundreth sixtie fyve qch [quhich] are unpayed is a trew & just list of all the hearthes within the walls of Edinburghe to the best of my knauledge Amounting to six parochins Excepting Three Hundreth nyntie fyve hearthes of poor And that I have vsed the outmost of my indevour to come to the knouledg of all the hearthes of the saids parochins And that I have not willinglie nor wittinglie concealled any But given vp the samen as sd [said] is As I shall ansr [answer] To God
