In presence of the Earle of Linlithgow Compeared Robert
Maxwell abovedesigned [above designated] substitute be James Scott also above
designed [designated] for Collecting the Remaines of the Hearth Money
within the Toun and paroch abovespeit [above specifeit] who being solemnly
sworn & examined, declared, That the forsd [foresaid] List of
Hearths, Extending to Eleeven hundred & eight
which are payed Is the just & true list & number of
all the hearths within the saids bounds taken up by him and no more (the
rest of the Hearths therein, being taken up be the sd [said] James
scott himselfe before his decease) and that the sd [said] Robert
Maxwell hes not wittingly nor willing conceald
any but hes used his outmost endeavour for Collecting &
uplifting thereof and that is the truth at he shall answere
to God.
