[Opposite page - text inserted] I saw a raven for the first time in this county
today.

by 13' in width. The wall, which is built
of large stones carefully laid, is 8' in thickness
and visible in places to a height of 2'. The
pillars have been placed as usual about 3'
from the side walls. There has been an
entrance into the longer arm at its SE. [South East]
end. 2'.8" in width and also probably
into the shorter chamber near its junction
with the other in its NW. [North West] angle. but at this
point the outline of the ruin is indefinite.
There is an indication of a cross wall between the 2 chambers.
Only one covering slab remains in situ
& it appears to form part of the last men:
:tioned entrance.
The adjacent dwelling is much ruined
but appears to have consisted of two circular
enclosures NW & SE [North West & South East] of each other of different size with a third abutting on the N. [North]
one.
The circle towards
the SE [South East] has had an interior diameter of
about 22'. They all contain the usual
evidence of galleries.

The result of my writing up my notes
getting in arrear is the postponement of the
26th to the 27th!

At Achow about 1/3 m [mile] N. [North] of the main road from
Lybster to Helmsdale and about 1 m. [mile] W. [West]
of Lybster are the remains of a broch
