24 July 1910.
Sunday. Worked the greater part of the
day, revising proofs & answering letters.

25 July.
The worst day since we came to the county
so I have been able to write up my notes
which had got sadly in arrear.

27 July 1910.
To rest myself a little as the distance
to Achnaclyth was great I took a trap from
the inn up the Dunbeath water.

O.S [Ordnance Survey] 26.
About 1 1/2 m. [miles] over very rough walking made
worse owing to the recent rains we found
our way to the spot to the SE. [South East] of Cnocan
Con na Craige marked "Picts House" on the
O.S. [Ordnance Survey]. Here near the source of a small burn
were some half dozen green mounds
on the top of which were the foundations
of small oblong houses evidently sheiling
bothies but no sign did we see of any
earlier construction. Striking Westwards
over the moor to the Raffin burn another
mile or so we found another settlement
of similar sites & concluding that these were
the "Picts' Houses" indicated I made
some notes & settled to lunch. But
on looking at my map I found I
was on the wrong side of the burn
so after a breif rest started Northwards.
