There is a poor illustration in Smiles's Life
of Dick.
Though wet we had a thoroughly delightful
day in most glorious scenery and it was
8 o'clock before we got home.

23rd July 1910
Still a damp morning. On our way to
Berriedale we stopped at the Ord & through
dripping fern walked to the Ousedale Broch.

Broch. Ousedale Burn (59)
Situated at the top of a steep bank on the
N. [North] side of the Allt a Bhurg about 200 yds. [yards]
above its junction with the Ousdale Burn
is a broch which has been thoroughly ex:
:cavated. It is in a good state of preser:
:vation only above the entrance to the stair
is the wall in a bad state. The entrance
is from the SE. [South East] through a passage 14' in
length 5'.6" in height and 2'.6" in width.
At 3'.9" and 10'.3" from the exterior two slabs set edgewise
in the wall of the passage form checks for
doors and at 6'.7" inwards on the right
a doorway 2'.6" high and 2' wide gives
access to a guard chamber 8'.6" long, 5'
wide and nearly 8' high. The centre portion
of the roof of the guard chamber has fallen
in. The details may be taken from
the Proceedings & the notes in my abstract note book.
