to a great extent obliterated.
The O.S. [Ordnance Survey] indicates a standing stone about 1/2 m. [mile]
E [East] of Badryrie Crofts. Taking a bearing from
the broch with my compass I set out across
the moors on a walk of 1 1/2. When I reached
the spot indicated I found a column of
stones raised beside a shieling bothy which
had caught my eye a long way off but no
signs of a standing stone. Seeing a crofter
carting peats from the hill top above me I
made my way to him & enquired. Though
he had lived on the spot at Badryrie all his
life and was an exceptionally intelligent looking
man he had never heard of any standing
stone in the neighbourhood of the crofts.
I had had a five mile walk over heather
for nothing! Returning to Achavanich
where I had sent my boy with the bicycles
& superfluous luggage I made for home.
This was the most attractive moorland
country I have been in yet. The land is
more hilly & consequently there is less
bog. Being nearer to the Morven Mountains
the scenery also is grander.
