and the ornament is completed with blocks of
vertical lines confined between the zigzags and
alternating with plain spaces. The ornamenta:
:tion has been impressed with a comb.

St. Peters Thurso.
In the rear of the houses in Miller's
Lane Thurso, lies an old octagonal block
of freestone with a deep circular basin on the top. It measures 1'.4" in height, 2'.1" in diameter
over all and 1'.7" across the basin. The
depth of the basin is 1'. There are no traces
of ornament on it. This is said to be
the font of St. Peter's church.
In the W. [West] wall of the burying ground
at St. Peter's, is a tablet carved in high relief, with the
date 1357 and the letters TW and
GC.

Lying in the nave beside the E. [East] wall is a
flat slab bearing an inscription in part
obliterated. It bears to be the tomb of A...M
Davidson Burgess of Inverness, indweller in
Thurso "quha departed in June 1587 being
66".. and of this spouse Katherine Sinclair
"quha departed May 1597 being 70". In the
centre of the slab is a shield parted per
pale - the dexter half is obliterated the sinister
bears the Sinclair cross engrailed.
