Port Garvillan This name
was given by William McDowal of
KirKcolm also Mr. Kennedy occupier
of South Cairn. it is a name well
Known. The name Portnaughan
is not so well Known yet I
[believe] might also be written it
[applies] to a small port or inlet
about 1/4 or 1/8 mile South of Port Garvillan

Port Garvillan is immediately South
of [Genoch] Rocks" & Portnaughan the
[next] Port South of Port Garvillan
[A] man who Pointed out the site of
Chapel Dunnan to Pt. [Private] Peter Bracken
[is] Sandy Hannay of Craigbell he is
[upwards] of 70 years of age also Pt. [Private] } See Page 46
Bracken met with other aged persons who
[know] it as Chapel Dunnan ( but these
women) they could not tell any thing of its
[origin]
