018 This name applies to a Saltwater Loch Situated about five miles South of the village of Tarbert its length is about 2 miles and its greatest breadth about one half mile. Its Signification is obscure.
SCHOOL [Ardvey] School (Boys & Girls Mr. Gillanders, Teacher Geocrab, Harris 018 The chief object of this school is to teach the children to read the Bible in the Gaelic language, but the lower grades of English reading & writing and arithmetic are also taught. It is supported by the 'Gaelic Society' and is situate in the district of Geocrab. It has an average attendance of 43 scholars boys & girls. The building is a one storey high thatched house in middling repair, & on the property of the Earl of Dunmore.
