According to the general division of the county just pointed out, the Merse designates the whole lower ground from Tweed up the cultivated slopes of the lower southend range of the Lammermoorhills, including the western parishes of Nenthorn & Merton, and forming the longest piece of compact level ground diversified only by a gentle undulations - to be found in Scotland. Mr Blackadder estimates this division to Contain 100.226 acres. |
