HUME CASTLE (Ruins of) [Continued from Page 21] Hume Castle was unable to stand the effects of Colonel Fenwick's canons and was obliged to surrender - The interior presents nothing of interest but the old well and a portion of an original Wall, measuring about 6 feet in thickness, the greater portion having been converted into a kitchen garden.
Exactly below the Trig: [Trigonometrical] Station a stone statue been built in the Wall, with the following inscription 1829.

Castle base above high watermark of sea at Berwick 742 feet.
Observed by Sir Thomas Brisbane 14th April 1829.
