025.09 | A large village was commenced in 1817. It now consists of a few regular streets extending from the Square or center of the Village, it contains two churches, one R.C. [Roman Catholic] Chapel, three schools all of which have the usual Government Grant, two Branch Banks, a Town Hall and a few detached fashionable houses. It is chiefly owned by the Residents. The Earl of Fife is Superior. There is a weekly corn market held in it during the winter and five fairs annually. |
